British Daredevil Skis Off 18,753-Foot Cliff: Talk About Taking the Plunge for Charity!

by Eric Gauvin

A British daredevil recently snagged a spot in the Guinness World Records by taking the phrase “jumping off a cliff” to a whole new level—literally! Joshua Bregmen, 34, decided that skiing off an 18,753-foot cliff and then parachuting down was a perfectly reasonable Wednesday activity.

He officially became the world’s highest altitude ski-BASE jumper by executing this wild stunt on Mera Peak in the Himalayas. I suppose you could say he’s really “reached new heights” in extreme sports!

Bregmen and his crew spent two whole weeks preparing for the jump, which involved scouting the perfect spot and cleaning up rocks—because nothing says “smooth ski run” like a debris-filled runway at nearly 6,000 meters! “I dreamt of gliding down with grace and style,” he said, “but let’s be honest, I was more focused on not becoming a human snowball at terminal velocity.”

With Everest looming majestically in the background, he added, “Sure, I was gasping for oxygen and might have overdone it on the heavy breathing, but who doesn’t love a little extra thrill with their skydiving?”

And while he soared through the air, Bregman wasn’t just trying to impress the squirrels; he aimed to raise money for charity and shine a light on human trafficking in Nepal. So, let’s just say his jump was a high-flying mix of adventure and doing good—talk about hitting two birds with one snowball!
